The route

This verified 86-mile journey begins in Mount Beauty with a short climb to Tawonga Gap, then returns through the Kiewa Valley and follows Bogong High Plains Road to Falls Creek. The sealed road continues past Rocky Valley Lake and the Wallace Hut trailhead before descending through the upper Mitta Mitta country to Omeo.

Parks Victoria identifies November to April as the best walking season, but the road remains an alpine environment. Snow, fire, smoke, debris and emergency closures can affect access outside the expected winter pattern. Check VicTraffic, Parks Victoria and the forecast immediately before leaving.

Wallace Hut is reached on foot from the signed trailhead. The member route stops at legal vehicle access and does not direct cars onto walking tracks or sensitive alpine ground.
