The route

Oregon's 363-mile shoreline is a public coastal region, but this Drive Pack is a verified 375-mile road journey. It begins in Astoria, follows US 101 south through Cannon Beach and Tillamook, adds the full Three Capes sequence, then continues through Newport, Florence, Bandon, Port Orford, Gold Beach and Brookings.

The route is built for four days rather than an artificial three-day sprint. It includes working harbors, lighthouse country, dunes, sea stacks and the forested Samuel H. Boardman corridor, with enough time to stop without turning the coast into a mileage exercise.

The direct northern road into Cape Meares remains closed, so the member route reaches the cape through Netarts and Oceanside, returns by the same road, then resumes south through Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda. Weather, surf, slides, construction and seasonal operations change quickly; check ODOT TripCheck and each stop before departure.

Fuel and Charging

Begin each long stage with adequate fuel or charge. Services thin south of Florence and can close earlier than expected, so confirm operating hours rather than relying on a fixed spacing assumption.

Offline Route and TripCheck

Coverage is unreliable in parks and on the south coast. Download the exact member route, tide information and a second offline map, then check ODOT TripCheck for current closures, construction and weather.

Reserve the Critical Stops

Reserve route-defining hotels and dinners as soon as dates are firm. Reconfirm every opening and booking before departure, especially outside summer.

Tides and Ocean Safety

Use an authoritative current tide forecast before entering beaches or tidepools. Keep clear of logs, cliffs and exposed rocks, and never turn your back on the Pacific.

Cape Meares Access

The direct Bayocean Road approach remains closed. Reach Cape Meares through Netarts and Oceanside, return the same way, then continue south to Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda. A day-use permit is required at Cape Meares in 2026.
