The route

San Diego's mountain roads are an underrated driving collection. This Drive Pack covers 137 verified scenic miles across three separate stages: Ortega Highway, Palomar Mountain with Temecula, and Sunrise Highway with Julian. Transfer mileage between stages is not included.

South Grade Road is the technical highlight, climbing Palomar Mountain through a concentrated sequence of switchbacks. The route continues to Palomar Observatory, returns to East Grade Road and then travels north-west to Temecula. The second-day stage follows Sunrise Highway along the desert edge before reaching Julian.
