Appalachian Grand Tour
America's most beloved scenic road through peak fall color
Appalachian Grand Tour
The Blue Ridge Parkway is not a speed road. the limit is 45 mph and the pace is contemplative. But as a multi-day touring experience, it is unmatched in the eastern United States. This curated route pack covers the most spectacular 150-mile segment from Asheville to Blowing Rock, following the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Appalachia.
The fall color display is legendary. entire mountainsides ignite in crimson, gold, and burnt orange. and the food scene in Asheville has earned it recognition as one of America's great culinary cities. Side trips to the Biltmore Estate, Pisgah National Forest, and the charming mountain town of Highlands round out an experience that balances driving pleasure with Southern hospitality at its finest.
This is a route for those who understand that the journey itself is the destination. Every overlook reveals a new composition, every small town offers a warm welcome, and every mile of ridgeline driving reminds you why this road has been America's most-visited scenic byway for decades.

What You Get
Trip Planning Essentials
Route-specific logistics to help you plan ahead. Fuel stops, cell coverage, reservation requirements, and recommended apps for this drive.
Fuel Stops
Fuel is readily available in Asheville and Blowing Rock. However, there are long stretches of the Parkway with no gas stations. Fill up before you get on the Parkway for the day.
Cell Coverage
Cell service is unreliable and often non-existent on large portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway, especially in the more remote areas and tunnels. Download maps and any necessary information beforehand.
Advance Bookings
Reservations are essential for fine dining restaurants in Asheville like CΓΊrate and for popular accommodations, especially during peak season (fall and summer weekends). Book weeks or even months in advance.
Blue Ridge Parkway App
Download the official Blue Ridge Parkway app for up-to-date information on road closures, weather conditions, and points of interest. It's an invaluable tool for navigating the drive.
Pack for All Weather
The weather in the mountains can change quickly. Even in the summer, it can be cool at higher elevations. Pack layers, including a rain jacket, to be prepared for any conditions.
Asheville & The Biltmore
Southern culture meets mountain grandeur
Begin in Asheville, checking into your mountain hotel and exploring the city's renowned food scene. Visit the Biltmore Estate β George Vanderbilt's 250-room chΓ’teau set on 8,000 acres β and tour the estate's winery, America's most-visited. Dinner at CΓΊrate for Spanish tapas or The Admiral for creative American cuisine.
Arrive in the afternoon, check in, and explore downtown before dinner.
City streets with moderate traffic. Main roads are well-maintained. Be mindful of pedestrians in the downtown area.
Asheville to Grandfather Mountain
The parkway's most dramatic engineering
Join the Blue Ridge Parkway heading north from Asheville. Stop at Craggy Gardens (mile 364) for panoramic views and wildflower meadows, then continue to Mount Mitchell β the highest peak east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet. The road winds along the ridgeline through tunnels of fall color to Linville Falls and the dramatic Linn Cove Viaduct, an engineering marvel that hugs the side of Grandfather Mountain.
Depart by 9:00 AM to enjoy the scenic drive and have ample time for stops.
Classic Blue Ridge Parkway driving: sweeping curves, smooth pavement, and stunning vistas. Expect some tighter sections and tunnels. Traffic can be heavy on weekends, especially during fall foliage season.

America's most beautiful drive
The Blue Ridge Parkway is iconic but this route pack adds so much more. The detours off the parkway to hidden waterfalls and mountain overlooks were incredible. The fall foliage timing advice in the roadbook was spot-on.
The definitive Appalachian road trip
I've driven sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway before but never like this. The rally points took us to viewpoints and towns I'd never have found. The elevation profile in the roadbook helped us plan our driving days perfectly.
Appalachian magic
We drove this over four days and every mile was spectacular. The accommodation recommendations were charming mountain lodges that added so much to the experience. The Stable understands that a great drive is about more than just the road.
