Causeway Coastal Route

The Causeway Coastal Route is regularly voted one of the world's great coastal drives, and it delivers on every count. From Belfast, the road hugs the Antrim coast through a landscape of basalt cliffs, golden beaches, and geological drama that culminates at the Giant's Causeway — 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by an ancient volcanic eruption.

But this route is far more than one landmark. The Antrim Coast Road, built in the 1830s by engineer William Bald, is an engineering marvel in its own right — carved into cliffs that drop hundreds of feet to the sea. The Glens of Antrim — nine glacial valleys — cut inland from the coast, each with its own character: forest, waterfall, and the kind of green that exists nowhere else on Earth.

The route passes through Ballycastle, where the Rathlin Island ferry departs for puffin-watching; past the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, suspended 30 metres above the Atlantic; and through Bushmills, home to the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery. The Dark Hedges — a tunnel of beech trees made famous by Game of Thrones — is a short detour inland.

The food scene has exploded in recent years. Northern Ireland's larder is extraordinary: Glenarm salmon, Strangford Lough oysters, Comber potatoes, and Armagh Bramley apples. The distillery trail — Bushmills, Dunville's, Echlinville — adds a whiskey dimension that Scotland might envy.

The route ends in Derry, the walled city on the Foyle — a place of extraordinary history, vibrant culture, and the best craic in Ireland.

""The Causeway Coastal Route is not just a drive — it is a journey through 60 million years of geological drama and 6,000 years of human history." — National Geographic"

The iconic Titanic Quarter, built on the very slipways where the legendary RMS Titanic was launched, is now home to the world's leading Titanic Belfast museum. This award-winning attraction offers an immersive experience into the ship's story, from its conception to its tragic maiden voyage. Beyond the Titanic, the Cathedral Quarter pulsates with energy, boasting an array of trendy craft cocktail bars, independent art galleries, and diverse street food vendors. Explore the historic streets, where stunning Victorian architecture stands alongside contemporary murals that narrate the city's complex political past, particularly in the Falls and Shankill roads. The Glens of Antrim

Nine Green Valleys

Preview

The nine Glens of Antrim, often referred to as the 'Nine Green Valleys', are a series of stunning glacial valleys that cut inland from the dramatic Antrim coast. Each glen possesses its own unique character, offering a diverse landscape of ancient woodlands, cascading waterfalls, and picturesque villages. Glenariff, famously known as the 'Queen of the Glens', is a particular highlight, boasting a spectacular waterfall walk through a lush nature reserve that is considered one of the finest short hikes in all of Ireland. The coastal road that weaves between these glens is an experience in itself, offering breathtaking views of towering cliffs, dramatic sea stacks, and, on clear days, glimpses across the sea to Scotland. As you drive, you'll encounter charming villages like Cushendall, often called the 'Capital of the Glens', where a stop for traditional Irish tea and scones is highly recommended. The landscape here is a painter's dream, with an intensity of green that is rarely seen elsewhere, shaped by centuries of geological activity and human history. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and the unique flora that thrives in this temperate climate. The Glens offer numerous opportunities for photography, hiking, and simply soaking in the serene natural beauty of Northern Ireland.
